The Toronto Blue Jays fell to the Houston Astros 5-1 in Tuesday night action at Daikin Park. The Blue Jays have now lost four in a row and drop to .500. on the year.
Offence continues to be a problem for Toronto, who only managed two hits in the game. Throughout the first two games, Toronto is 4-55 and has been outscored 12-1.
Meanwhile, Houston got to Toronto starter Chris Bassitt early, putting up a three-spot in the first inning thanks to four singles and a sacrifice fly.
Nathan Lukes got one back in the second with his first home run of the year. The Astors added it back on in the sixth on an RBI double from Yainer Diaz. Isaac Parades hit a solo shot off of Yariel Rodriguez in the seventh.
Besides Lukes' home run, the only other Blue Jays hit came off the bat of Ernie Clement. While the Blue Jays haven't been hitting home runs early on in the season, they were stringing together hits and quality at bats. Now, that too appears to have gone out the window.
In spite of the score, Bassit's line wasn't all that bad. In 5.1 innings he gave up four runs while striking out three on seven hits. Brendon Little walked one and struck out one in a scoreless two-thirds, while Mason Fluharty struck out the side in the eighth.
The Blue Jays and Astros finish up their series tomorrow. Bowden Francis will be opposed by Ryan Gusto. First pitch is scheduled for for 7:40PM ET.
