At the end of the 2025 season, the outfielder/DH for the
Toronto Blue Jays will be donating his Hartford Whalers-themed batting gloves to the Hockey Hall of Hame.
Springer is a native of New Britain, Connecticut and grew up a big fan of the
Hartford Whalers. Although the hockey team is no more, having departed the capital and moving to Raleigh to become the
Carolina Hurricans, Springer has continuously found ways to honour them.
At the request of the @HockeyHallFame, George Springer will donate his Hartford Whalers-themed batting gloves to them at season's end.
In 2023, he used a Whalers-inspired tune as his walk-up music. The song, "Brass Bonanza" was beloved as a theme song for the Whalers.
Springer's love of hockey runs deep
Springer is well-known in the clubhouse for his love of hockey; perhaps that's why he fit in so well in Toronto.
While the Whalers never had a ton of success during their 18 year existence in the NHL, the Hurricans did win the Stanley Cup back in 2006, also advancing to the finals in 2002.
It's fitting that this request came in during Springer's renaissance season. After a down year in 2024, Springer exploded to have his best season in a Blue Jays uniform.
Now, a piece of him will forever be enshrined in on of Canada's most hallowed halls.
