Sportsnet broadcaster Jamie Campbell made the trip to St Thomas, Ontario to help a young Toronto Blue Jays fan make it to Dunedin before he passes away from cancer.
A powerful act of compassion from Sportsnet broadcaster Jamie Campbell is helping a young Toronto Blue Jays fan fulfill his final wish.
Campbell recently travelled to St. Thomas, Ontario, to visit 17-year-old Weslee Johnson, a devoted Blue Jays supporter facing unimaginable circumstances.
Weslee was born with hypoplastic left heart syndrome, a congenital condition that leaves the left ventricle severely underdeveloped. After years of battling heart complications — and now cancer — his time is limited.
Despite the devastating diagnosis, Weslee has approached life with remarkable courage and optimism.
Like many teenagers, he loves sports and passionately cheers for the Blue Jays.
But Weslee's journey has required far more strength than most kids his age will ever know.
Over the years, he has endured numerous medical challenges, yet continued to push forward — graduating Grade 12 with honours, earning his driver’s license, and serving on an advisory council at SickKids Hospital.
“I just try to live life with no regrets,” Weslee said in a recent interview with CTV News’ Brent Lale.
His outlook has been inspired in part by the song “Live Like You Were Dying” by Tim McGraw — a message he has taken to heart.
“I just try and live every day like it’s your last and stay positive,” he explained.
Weslee’s dream is to travel to Dunedin, Florida — the Blue Jays’ spring training home — one final time.

His parents, who left their jobs to remain at his bedside, have no steady income and were facing the financial burden alone.
That’s when Campbell stepped in and really started to make things happen
I went to visit Wes Johnson in St. Thomas, Ontario yesterday. In the next month or two, he will pass away.
With the help of friends, family, and supporters, an online fundraiser has raised more than $18,000 to help send Weslee and his family to Florida.
His last wish is to attend the Blue Jays’ game in Dunedin on March 10. His parents quit work to be at his side and have no income. They’re solely responsible for financing the trip. If you are able to assist, know they are grateful.

A family friend also secured tickets to make the trip possible.
In the face of heartbreaking reality, the story has become one of generosity, community, and love.
Weslee plans to spend his remaining time surrounded by family and friends, while his mother hopes his journey inspires others to register as organ donors, a cause that could give other families more time than they were given.
Campbell thanked everyone for their donations so far, being moved to tears by people's generosity and compassion.
"God bless every one of you. The donations coming in since this was posted have brought tears to my eyes."
It is a reminder that even in the darkest moments, kindness can shine brightly.
