Teams are allowed an extra for double-headers so the Blue Jays don't need to make a corresponding roster move in this instance. They did make one additional transaction though; pitcher Ryan Burr was transferred to the 60-Day IL.
The decision the move Burr opens up a 40-man roster spot without having to DFA another candidate. It also likely means that Burr is out until at least the All-Star break. He is also out of options, so the Jays bought themselves as to whether or not they are going to keep him.
Clase is off to very hot start in Buffalo. Through 22 games with the Bisons this season, the outfielder is batting .343/.452/.400 with four doubles and 13 stolen bases.
There's no guarantee that Clase will get into either game this afternoon or whether he'll stick around after today, but he is definitely deserving of a shot.
Barring a last-minute activation, it would appear that the Blue Jays are saving Daulton Varsho's return for Tuesday at home against Boston.
Clase, who came over from Seattle in the Yimi Garcia trade, appeared briefly for both the Mariners and Blue Jays last year, playing in 33 games between the two clubs. During his stint with Toronto, he hit his first major league home run.
While he has the ability to play centre and left field, Clase's biggest asset is his speed, having 232 stolen bases in 429 minor league games.
