Toronto Blue Jays reliever Yimi Garcia is working his way back from a procedure to fix scar tissue in his right elbow, and is nearing his first rehab outing in 2026.

Although the Toronto Blue Jays moved Yimi Garcia to the 60-day injured list on Saturday following the promotion of Yohendrick Pinango, the change does not affect his overall recovery timeline.
García is scheduled to throw another live batting practice session in Dunedin at the team’s Player Development Complex.
After that, the next step could be either an additional live BP or the start of a minor league rehab stint.

The right-hander had surgery last September to address elbow scar tissue, and Toronto has taken a cautious approach with his buildup through Spring Training and the early part of the 2026 season.
His placement on the 60-day injured list pushes his earliest possible season debut to late May, though manager John Schneider indicated that this aligns with the team’s original plan.
Moving Yimi Garcia to the 60-day IL doesn’t push back his season debut by much per John Schneider. Maybe by an outing or two. He’s eligible to return in May after 60 days on the sidelines.

Garcia nearing first rehab assignment

García is now facing live hitters as part of his throwing progression and appears to be nearing a rehab assignment.
When available, García has been an effective bullpen option, recording a 3.60 ERA with a 30.5% strikeout rate over his last 60 innings.
However, his walk rate rose notably from 7.8% in 2024 to 13.3% in 2025. That spike may be tied to his elbow issues, especially considering his previous career-high walk rate was just 8.3%, which came in a limited sample during the shortened 2020 season.
Toronto reacquired García after trading him to the Seattle Mariners at the 2024 deadline, signing him to a two-year, $15 million deal last offseason despite his injury concerns.
Once healthy, García is expected to join workhorse Louis Varland, Jeff Hoffman, and submariner Tyler Rogers as key high-leverage options at the back end of the Blue Jays’ bullpen.
