On the eve of their first spring training game, the Toronto Blue Jays got more bad news on the injury front.

A few days ago it was reported that relief pitcher Yimi Garcias status for opening day was questionable following off-season surgery. On Friday, he was officially ruled out for opening day, with the pitcher himself saying he "100 percent won't be ready" for the Toronto Blue Jays first game on March 27th.
Sportsnet's Shi Davidi was the first one to relay the news.
Andres Gimenez on "accepting ... and embracing" the challenge of moving back to shortstop; A spot in the bullpen opens up as Yimi Garcia "100 per cent" won't be ready for opening day; and more to watch for as Blue Jays set to begin spring sked:

Likely just to miss minimal amount of time

It's an unfortunate development for Garcia, who has not pitched in a major league game since July 2nd of last year. Additionally, he has battled injuries for the better part of the last two seasons.
After appearing in 61 games in 2022 and 73 in 2023, Garcia took the mound just 29 times in 2024 before being sent to the Seattle Mariners in a deadline deal. He played just 10 games for the M's before elbow inflammation ended his season.
Toronto brought him back prior to last year and when he has healthy, Garcia performed well and was a key member of the Blue Jays bullpen.
If there's a bright spot in this it's that Garcia likely won't miss too much time. While he won't be 100%, he likely will have started throwing, and shouldn't miss more than a couple of weeks.
Upon his return, he'll join forces with Louis Varland and Tyler Rogers in forming a link to closer Jeff Hoffman
