The Toronto Blue Jays always seem to have a space enthusiast on their roster.

Last year it was Alan Roden, the beloved outfielder who was traded to the Minnesota Twins mid-season for Ty France and Louis Varland.
This spring, that guy just might be new Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Chase Lee.
Even Chase Lee would tell you that his journey into becoming an MLB reliever was unfathomable.

Yet the sidearmer with the aerospace engineering degree could now break camp with the Blue Jays.
Roden had a degree in astrophysics. Similarly, Lee is educated in the field of aeronautical engineering.
And much like the former Blue Jays outfielder, Lee never imagined himself as a big league ball player.
He still lives within an hour of his hometown and has been with his wife since high school.
Now, he is cusp of playing for Canada's team. It stills very surreal for the kid from small-town Alabama.
When I look around this room and try to measure up, a lot of times I don't feel like I fit in. Skillset-wise, I feel like I'm there. I know I can pitch. But it's like, 'Man, I was in calculus a few years ago not even thinking about this. How did I end up here?

Unlike Roden, Lee wasn't necessarily into designing rockets. For him, the potentially was great and he aerospace sounded cool on a resume, which it does.

Lee likely to start year at Triple-A Buffalo

Lee, who made his major league debut with the Detroit Tigers in 2025, already feels that he's made it beyond anything he could ever imagine, is likely to begin the year at Triple-A.
Although he has pitched relatively well this Spring and could surprise people, he has options and Toronto has over-depth of pitchers.
Still, the space man could find himself pitching for all of Canada sooner rather than later.
