Peyton Williams is a big man. He is tell, he is imposing, he is everyone's hulking bodyguard. He could also be the next big bat for the Blue Jays
He also has perhaps the greatest nickname of all Blue Jays players: «The Iowa Meat Truck». Strange, but apt.
The native of Des Moines had a neighbour who owned a food truck. One day he wore the company's shirt to batting practice and The Iowa Meet Truck moniker took off.
But this is just about a name. Williams has a real shot at becoming a part of the Blue Jays future.
Even though he profiles as a 1B/DH - similar to Vladimir Guerrero Jr.. - he is a lefty bat who can absolutely take and has also improved his defence. While his path may be narrower than others, his raw power alone might push him over the top and into the bigs.
Though he played in High-A last year, Williams was one of the prospects that got invited to the Arizona Fall League this past December. His performance there turned a few heads and there's no reason he can't reach the higher levels this year.
As for the nickname?
I wore the Iowa Meat Truck to a meeting and the coaches loved it, so they said that every time I hit a double or a home run, I've just got to honk the horn. Our announcer up in Vancouver was wondering what the celebration was, so I told him and he loved it. Then, whenever something happened, he'd try to work it in there. My neighbor back home loves it. He's loving it.
