Starting pitcher overview
Despite missing spring training, veteran lefty Patrick Corbin has been keeping in shape independently and has built up to throwing 80 pitches.
Last weekend Corbin had a minor league start for the Class A affiliate Dunedin Blue Jays.
The veteran southpaw carried himself well, working five innings of one-run ball while striking out nine.
Welcome, Patrick Corbin👏 9️⃣ K’s in 5️⃣ innings with 0️⃣ earned runs? That’ll play.
The one run that Corbin allowed was unearned, when an error from outfielder Matt Scannell helped the Bradenton Marauders get on the scoreboard in the top of the first.
That was all the Marauders could muster on the afternoon, however, as Corbin allowed just four hits and one walk.
The 36-year-old tossed 74 pitches — 53 strikes — mixing in his slider, sinker, cutter, changeup and four-seam fastball.
A veteran of 13 MLB seasons, the 2019 World Series champion spent 2025 with the Texas Rangers and recorded a 4.40 ERA in 155.1 innings.
The Twins will counter with former Blue Jays right-hander Simeon Woods Richardson on Friday night.
In his last outing Woods Richardson did not factor into the decision in a 4-1 extra-inning loss to the Rays, allowing one run on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts over 6.2 innings.
Despite throwing just 51 of 88 pitches for strikes, Woods Richardson turned in a quality start and kept the Rays in check aside from a solo homer by Junior Caminero in the fourth inning.
While he's posted a modest 6:3 K:BB through two starts, the 25-year-old owns a 2.31 ERA and 1.11 WHIP across 11.2 innings.
