Will the Blue Jays make some noise in the noise in the AL East? According to former pitcher and current MLB Network analyst Dan Plesac, the answer is a resounding yes.
On a recent segment of
MLB Toniught, Plesac claimed that the Blue Jays are a sleeper team and could surprise a lot of people in baseball's most competitive division.
While initial projections has the Blue Jays in third place behind the Yankess and Orioles, New York's recent injury struggles - Gerritt Cole is out for the year with Tommy John Surgery; Giancarlo Stanton and Luis Gil are also set to miss significant time - combined with Toronto's strong spring, have led some to think that the Blue Jays are better than previously thought.
It's easy to understand why Plesac made that statement too. In spite of the uncertain status of Max Scherzer as well as the injury to Erik Swanson, the Blue Jays have vastly improved their pitching depth, and the results have been there this spring.
Also, their offense has com alive in a big way. Anthony Santander has eight RBIs, Andres Gimenez has shown renewed power, and Myles Straw is hitting over .400. The Blue Jays are getting contributions from all around.
While many fans are still rightly skeptical of the Blue Jays ability to field a winning team, if their regular season is anything like their spring training, we could see them well into October.
Plesac, who pitched for the Blue Jays for 4.5 years over two separate stints, is a pretty knowledge and well-known as a keen analyst.
Time will tell is predictions come true.
