With so focus having been on the Vladimir Guerrero Jr. extension talks, the impending free agency Bo Bichette has been pushed to the back burner. It's time to talk about it.
In a recent article for the New York Post, longtime baseball writer and MLB insider
Jon Heyman predicted that the two-time All-Star shortstop will walk away from the
Blue Jays at the end of the season.
While Bo hasn't much talked about the negotiations - or even if there has been an offer - it is known that he likes playing in Toronto and with his best friend Vladdy.
However, Heyman feels that won't stop him from signing with another team.
"Word is Bo Bichette is destined for free agency, however, and likely to leave," - Jon Heyman
Bichette, who is off to a good start seven into the season, will need a strong year after an injury-plagued 2024. While he won't command nearly the same money as Vladdy, he could be looking at a contract in the $200M range, depending on length.
While Bo's fate and future is partly tied to Vlad's - questions arise about whether the Blue Jays can afford both long-term - Bo is also his own person.
Bo doesn't tip hi hand nearly as much as Vlad, and it would appear that the Blue Jays did not make him an offer in the Spring Training. That being said, there hasn't been a hard deadline with him and anything could happen between now and the end of the season.
