With the minor league season over, a number of players have declared themselves free agents. A couple of former Blue Jays are among them.
CatcherAli Sanchez and outfielder Joshua Palacios are now on the market.
Players on major league rosters can't declare free agency until five days after the World Series, however those in the minor leagues who have been previously outrighted off their teams' rosters are eligible.
This is the case for both Sanchez and Palacios.
The Blue Jays signed Sanchez to a minor league contract prior to the start of the 2025 season as added catching depth. While he did spend most of his time in Triple-A, he did get into eight games over two brief stints with the team. He went 5-21.
Per MiLB transacations log, catcher Ali Sanchez has elected free agency
He was designated for assignment by the team twice, and the Boston Red Sox picked him up off waivers in August. He appeared in two games before being claimed by the New York Mets who then traded him back to Boston for cash.
Palacios was a fourth round draft pick by Toronto back in 2016 and made his major league debut with the club in 2021.
Blue Jays have surplus of outfielders, in need of catching depth
Known for his speed, Palacios got into seven games with the Blue Jays before being DFA'd. He found some success in Pittsburgh in 2023, when he hit 10 home runs and had 40 RBIS but was unable to replicate that success the following year.
There is a possibly that the Jays, who are short on catching depth, could look at bringing Sanchez back into the fold.
