The Toronto Blue Jays are finalizing their 26-man roster as they prepare to kick off the season Friday against the Oakland Athletics.
The Blue Jays announced earlier this afternoon, that they designated infielder Leo Jimenez for assignment.
That decision opens the door for Davis Schneider to secure the final bench spot.
Attention has now shifted to the last opening in the bullpen, and a decision has been reached.
According to The Athletic's Mitch Bannon, Rule 5 Draft pick Spencer Miles has earned the final spot in Toronto's bullpen.
Fun backstory here: Miles' girlfriend lives in Dunedin and he was there during the R5 draft. After the #BlueJays' selected him, he popped over to start working at the complex. Cleary, that work paid off. Rare for a R5 pick to make a serious contender
The Blue Jays, however, are not required to officially announce their roster until Wednesday evening, ahead of the game between the San Francisco Giants and the New York Yankees.
Toronto selected Miles from the Giants in December's Rule 5 Draft. The 25-year-old missed the 2025 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.
In 2024, Miles pitched in the Arizona Complex League, posting a 4.91 ERA with 10 strikeouts across 7.2 innings.
This spring, he showed improvement, recording a 3.72 ERA over seven appearances, allowing four earned runs on 11 hits in 9.2 innings.
Lee, 27, appeared in 32 games last season with the Detroit Tigers, finishing with a 4.10 ERA. He was sharp in spring training, not allowing a run over six outings.
Over the weekend, the Blue Jays also confirmed they would not carry their their other Rule 5 pick, Angel Bastardo, on the Opening Day roster.
As a result, the Boston Red Sox now have the option to reclaim him. Bastardo posted a 4.70 ERA in seven spring appearances with Toronto.
The Blue Jays will begin their 2026 season Friday night against the Athletics, with first pitch scheduled for 7:07 p.m. ET on Sportsnet.
