The Blue Jays secret weapon during Spring Training

The former catcher and five-time All-Star is once again a presence at Blue Jays camp, continuing a trend that began when he joined the organization as a special advisor in 2023.

While Martinez never played for the Blue Jays, former GM Alex Anthopoulos tried to sign him back in 2014. Martinez also has a strong connection to Blue Jays president Mark Shapiro from their time together in Cleveland. In fact, Shapiro's son Caden, an outfielder at Princeton, even wears #41 in his honour.

A true baseball lifer, Martinez is highly respected for both his deep hitting knowledge and his reputation within the game. Since joining the Blue Jays, he's been made available to players at all levels of the organization.

With the Blue Jays struggling to find consistent offense over the past couple of seasons, Martinez - along with Blue Jays legend Edwin Encarnación - has been working with both top prospects and established stars, helping them rediscover their power stroke.

The feedback on Martinez has been overwhelmingly positive - not just for his insight, but for the way he carries himself. The two-time Silver Slugger is known for his approachable nature and can often be seen chatting with and dissecting at-bats alongside players like Bo Bichette and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. during broadcasts.

Though Martinez has yet to officially coach at the Major League level, given his knowledge and presence, it likely won't be long before the opportunity comes calling.
