The Toronto Blue Jays have fallen to 3-2, following an 11-8 Spring Loss to the Baltimore Orioles in Sarasota.
Easton Lucas, in his second start of Spring Training, pitched a scoreless first inning before running into trouble in the second.
After a Ryan Mountcastle single, Lucas then surrendered a double and a home run to put the Blue Jays in an early 3-0 hole.
Andrew Bash came in and promptly walked Luis Vazquez and hit Adley Rutschman before giving up an RBI single to Cedric Mullins and a three-run homer to Tyler O'Neill. It was 7-0 before the inning was over.
Down 11-5 in the ninth, the Blue Jays once again made things interesting thanks to a three-run home run by third base prospect Charles McAdoo. But it was too little, too late for the Blue Birds.
Orelvis Martinez continued his hot start to Spring Training with a two-run single in the 4th inning. One batter later, Myles Straw also singled to bring home a pair and make it 7-4. It was the closest the Blue Jays would come.
Some good news for the team was that Addison Barger was back in the starting lineup, days after being hit on his hand during first his Spring Training appearance.
Minor league pitcher Johnathan Lavallee continued to impress, throwing another scoreless inning in relief, and highly-touted catching prospect Phil Clarke saw his first game action, entering in the 6th inning as a replacement for starting catcher Matt Whatley.
The Blue Jays continue their slate with a pair of games against Detroit and New York tomorrow, in what will be their first split-squad action of the Grapefruit League season.
