Sosa became expendable after the White Sox acquired Munetaka Murakami

Sosa arrives in Toronto following a productive 2025 season in which he led the White Sox with 22 home runs while also driving in 75 runs over 140 games.

Despite that power output, his aggressive approach at the plate limited his on-base percentage to .293, highlighting an area for potential improvement.
Although he was one of Chicago’s more reliable offensive contributors, Sosa’s role with the team became less certain during the offseason after roster additions of Munetaka Murakami and Austin Hays created increased competition for playing time.
That ultimately made him expendable and opened the door for this move.
The right-handed hitter, who hails from Puerto Ordaz, Venezuela, originally signed with the White Sox as an international free agent in 2016 and made his Major League debut in 2022.
Over parts of five MLB seasons, he has compiled a .245 batting average with 37 home runs, 128 RBIs, and a .659 OPS across 315 games.
On the other side of the deal, Rich is an intriguing young prospect.
The 18-year-old has yet to begin his professional career after being selected in the 17th round of the 2025 draft out of American Heritage High School.
In his senior season, the left-handed hitter impressed with a .393 average, 19 extra-base hits, 38 stolen bases, and a 1.216 OPS.
The Blue Jays, currently sitting at 6–9, will look to integrate Sosa into their lineup as they prepare to open a nine-game road trip in Milwaukee against the Milwaukee Brewers.
