The Toronto Blue Jays announced Thursday that left-handed pitcher Adam Macko will represent Team Canada at the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
A native of Vauxhall, Alberta, Adam Macko’s path to professional baseball has been anything but conventional.
Born in Slovakia, he later moved to Ireland, where he was raised before returning to Canada to attend the Vauxhall Academy. There, he played alongside fellow Blue Jays prospect Damiano Palmegiani.

Macko's path to the big-leagues has been a long and arduous road
Macko was selected by the Seattle Mariners in the seventh round of the 2019 MLB Draft and made his professional debut later that season.
In 23.1 innings, the 6-foot, 170-pound southpaw posted a 3.09 ERA and 3.83 FIP, striking out 33 percent of opposing hitters while walking 11.7 percent.
In November 2022, Macko was acquired by Toronto as part of the trade that sent Teoscar Hernández to Seattle in exchange for reliever Erik Swanson.
During his first full season in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, Macko remained relatively healthy and logged 86 innings with the High-A Vancouver Canadians, finishing with a 4.81 ERA and a 3.97 FIP.
After beginning the year with Single-A Dunedin on a rehab assignment, he spent most of the season with the Double-A New Hampshire Fisher Cats, while also making appearances with the Triple-A Buffalo Bisons. In Double-A, he recorded a 4.87 ERA and 3.72 FIP over 81.1 innings.
At the Triple-A level, excluding his rehab outings, Macko has posted a 5.62 ERA and 4.97 FIP across 49.2 innings, along with a 19.2 percent strikeout rate and a 14.4 percent walk rate.
Macko was ranked as MLB Pipeline’s 23rd-best Blue Jays prospect in their latest update.
His fastball regularly sits in the mid-90s, complemented by an average slider and an above-average curveball.
If he can finally put together a fully healthy season, Macko has a chance to make a meaningful impact for both the Blue Jays and Team Canada heading into the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
