The Toronto Blue Jays have announced Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt will switch starts in the New York Yankees series.

The Blue Jays aren't taking any chances with Max Scherzer and his latest ailment as they continue to fine tune the starting rotation for the most important stretch of the season.

Blue Jays starters Max Scherzer and Chris Bassit will switch start dates to give Scherzer an extra days rest

Max Scherzer and Chris Bassitt are swapping starts to give the former "an extra day" to heal from back tightness, manager John Schneider said on Blair and Barker on Friday.
Chris Bassitt starts Saturday and Max Scherzer will go Sunday, said Blue Jays manager John Schneider.

Switch was made to give Scherzer an extra day after he had the upper back stiffness last outing.
Scherzer will now start Sunday against the New York Yankees, while Bassitt goes Saturday.
The three-time Cy Young winner Scherzer exited his last start Sunday against the Milwaukee Brewers with the injury, but later referred to it as a "minor issue."
"(It was the) upper scap. Before the game, I woke up normal, looking down at the scouting reports, and I looked up, and all of a sudden I could feel that my upper scap was tight," he said during an appearance on the Foul Territory podcast Tuesday.
«It was affecting the way I was getting through the ball,» Scherzer said following the game. «I snap my head down pretty hard to get through pitches and it was affecting how I get through the ball and was flattening out.

Scherzer, 41, threw 67 pitches over four innings of work, allowing nine hits, four runs and two homers in what ended as a win for the Blue Jays over the Brewers. He didn't issue any walks and struck out one for the afternoon.
A three-time Cy Young Award winner, Scherzer is 5-2 with a 4.11 ERA in 13 starts and is 4-1 with a 3.36 ERA since Aug. 1. He was sidelined between March 29 and June 25 by right thumb inflammation.
For Bassitt, the start will still come on regular rest after the Blue Jays' off-day Thursday.
He last pitched Monday against the Cincinnati Reds when he allowed two earned runs over six innings.
