Toronto Blue Jays announce update on Alejandro Kirk's return to the team

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider spoke to the media about Alejandro Kirk's progress and his possible return ahead of the series finale in Baltimore on Wednesday.
Kirk has been out with a concussion since getting hit by a foul tip last weekend in Detroit.
Alejandro Kirk has been progressing and doing more baseball activities (running, catching). If he continues progressing well, he could be in a AAA rehab game over the weekend. First day he's eligible for MLB return would be Sunday vs. Royals. That's on the table as of now.
Kirk will be eligible to be activated to the Blue Jays roster on Sunday providing he progresses well
If he continues to progress, the Blue Jays will look to get him in a rehab game with triple-A Buffalo by Saturday. Kirk is eligible to be activated from the IL on Sunday.

The 26-year-old has been in the midst of a resurgent season where he's managed to combine the above-average offense he offered earlier in his career with the stalwart defense he's provided in more recent seasons.
He's slashing .304/.361/.413 (117 wRC+) across 88 games for Toronto this year and he's received top-of-the-scale marks from advanced metrics on all aspects of his defense behind the plate.
The two-time All-Star and Silver Slugger is sorely missed in the lineup.
Even though Tyler Heineman his having a career year, he still doesn't provided the punch at the plate or the defense and pitch framing skills that Alejandro Kirk does.

Sanchez and Tyler Heineman have been average since Kirk went down, but getting him back in the lineup will certainly make a huge difference.
Hopefully the Blue Jays can string together a few wins before Kirk makes his possible return on Sunday.
