Sportsnet’s Ben Nicholson-Smith added that the 31-year-old experienced a setback in January while preparing for the season, prompting the procedure.
Anthony Santander will undergo left labral surgery tomorrow and will miss 5-6 months per John Schneider. Had a setback in January when ramping up hitting. Jays hope he comes back later in the season.

The team is hopeful Santander could return before the end of the year

“The hope is for him to definitely be back as soon as he can.” John Schneider on Anthony Santander’s return timeline.
Signed to a five-year, $92.5 million contract last offseason, Santander struggled to stay healthy throughout his first year in Toronto.
He missed a significant portion of the regular season after suffering a shoulder injury on May 29, eventually returning to the lineup on Sept. 24 against the Boston Red Sox.
In limited action, Santander finished the season batting .175 with a .271 on-base percentage and .294 slugging percentage, hitting six home runs across 54 games.
Despite the injuries, Santander was included on Toronto’s postseason roster for the ALDS against the New York Yankees and the ALCS.
However, he was later sidelined during the series against the Seattle Mariners due to lumbar spine inflammation.
Pitchers and catchers are scheduled to report to spring training Wednesday morning in Dunedin, Florida, as the Blue Jays begin preparations for the 2026 campaign following their pennant-winning season.
