The Toronto Blue Jays continued to trim their roster Monday as they move closer to finalizing their Opening Day squad.
Outfielder Eloy Jimenez was among six players reassigned to minor-league camp, despite turning heads with a strong spring performance.
The 29-year-old slashed .286/.333/.524 with two home runs and four doubles in 45 plate appearances, showing he may still have the bat that once made him a top prospect.
Jiménez originally broke out with the Chicago White Sox in 2019, hitting 31 home runs as a rookie, but injuries and inconsistency have limited his production in recent years.
With limited defensive versatility, his path back to the majors will depend heavily on his offensive output at Triple-A Buffalo.
If he continues to hit, he could be among the first call-ups. He also holds a July opt-out clause, which could factor into the team's decision-making if he performs and remains off the big-league roster.
Yariel Rodriguez included in six players assigned to minor leagues
Pitchers Yariel Rodriguez, Jorge Alcalá, Josh Fleming, Jesse Hahn and Joe Mantiply were also reassigned.
Rodriguez is coming off a solid 2025 campaign, posting a 3.08 ERA across 66 appearances, though he struggled late in the season and during spring training after being removed from the 40-man roster in the offseason.
Manager John Schneider said a couple of roster battles remain unresolved.
Davis Schneider and Leo Jiménez are competing for the final position-player spot, while Spencer Miles and Chase Lee are vying for the last opening in the bullpen.
The Toronto Blue Jays must finalize its roster by Wednesday, with a few key decisions still to be made.
