The Toronto Blue Jays have designated right-handed reliever Yariel Rodriguez for assignment.
According to MLB insider Francys Romero, the Blue Jays have designated right-handed pitcher Yariel Rodriguez for assignment.
The Blue Jays have designated right-handed pitcher Yariel Rodriguez for assignment, per sources. He posted 1.4 WAR out of the bullpen in 2025 with 73.0 innings, 66 strikeouts, and a 3.08 ERA.
Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith also confirmed the news on Rodriguez.

Rodriguez went unclaimed on the waiver wire.
Rodriguez's performance improved considerably upon moving to the bullpen in 2025, as he finished the regular season with a 3.08 ERA and 1.15 WHIP through 73 innings.
Seemed like both sides were headed in this direction, unfortunately. #BlueJays also needed to make space in the bullpen for eventual arrivals. Yariel Rodriguez was owed $7M in 2026 & $8M in 2027, holding a $6M multi-layered '28 player option.
Sportnet's Shi Davidi reported that Rodriguez went unclaimed over the waiver wire.
Yariel Rodriguez getting outrighted means he went through waivers unclaimed. He remains in the organization, as Blue Jays essentially freed up a 40-man roster spot. He can always be added back to roster later.
It isn't yet known if this is tied to any upcoming roster move. A 40-man roster spot wasn't immediately needed for the Jays, as the club has only 38 players on their current 40-man.
Cody Ponce's three-year contract has yet to be officially announced, but once that deal is complete, the Blue Jays will now still retain two vacancies on their 40-man with Rodriguez now apparently on his way out.
