The Blue Jays have added a critical need with their most recent signing.

According to the team's transaction log, Toronto has reached an agreement with catcher Isay Veras, an 17 year-old out of the Dominican Republic.
It is their second international signing in as many days, following Thursday announcement that they had signed pitcher Alikesi Torres.
Blue Jays sign Dominican teenage catcher Isay Veras
This year's window to sign international free agents ends on December 15th, and the Blue Jays are using the last few days to add to their depth.
They've been able to sign more players - or more accurately, have more money to spend on players - thanks to an extra $2 Million they received when acquiring Myles Straw from the Cleveland Guardians. While the deal was a failed attempt to get Roki Sasaki, they have been able to use the funds elsewhere.
While Veras' 2025 stats aren't listed, his ones for 2024 are. In 10 games, he went 3-19 with six RBIs and had more walks than strikeouts. He also stole two bases.

Low strikeout rate fits in with team philosophy

While it's undoubtedly a small sample size, Veras seems to profile as a hitter with a high on-base rate, and low strikeout percentage, which fits in well with the team's current philosophy.
Still just a teenager, he is likely several years away from the big leagues but will the Blue Jays will monitor his development. He looks set to begin 2026 in the Dominican Summer League.
