In off the field news,
according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post Blue Jays bench coach Don Mattingly could be considering calling it a career after making it to the World Series for the first time across his decades-long career in baseball.
Don Mattingly plays it coy as questions linger over his baseball future
Heyman notes that friends of Mattingly «believe retirement is a possibility» after this season, while Mattingly himself didn't tip his hand on the matter and simply told Heyman «You never know, you never know» when asked about his future.
In the meantime, Mattingly is just enjoying his World Series experience for the first time and reflecting on how special this Blue Jays squad is.
" For me I've been in this game a long time and there is probably 4 or 5 teams that where you say 'this is a team'. And I think when you look at this group from top to bottom, it's a team. This group is just so much fun to be around"
If Mattingly were to call it a career, he'd do so as one of the most accomplished baseball icons of recent vintage.
He earned an MVP award during a 14-year MLB career as a player and spent an additional 12 years managing the Dodgers and Marlins, the latter of whom he earned Manager of the Year honors for managing to the playoffs through a COVID-19 outbreak during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season.
