The 2022 trade that sent Toronto Blue Jays catching prospect Gabriel Moreno and fan favorite Lourdes Gurriel Jr to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Daulton Varsho has always been a heated debate amongst Jays fans.

After all, Gurriel Jr. was an All-Star the very next season, while Moreno won a Gold Glove and had a big showing in the playoffs.
The Blue Jays fans who thought Toronto got fleeced in the trade are pretty quiet these days though, and the fans who thought Varsho is exactly what this teem needs are smiling.
You won't find too many Blue Jays fans questioning the decision to trade for Daulton Varsho these days. In fact, you would be hard pressed to find any.

Blue Jays centerfielder Daulton Varsho has been dynamite on both sides of the ball so far in 2025

Despite being limited to just 28 games this season, Varsho has hit an absurd 11 home runs.
Nearly half of his 24 hits on the season have gone yard, helping him to a ridiculous 30 RBIs thus far.
He's currently hitting the most home runs at the best rate in all of baseball.
Varsho has shown power in the past, having hit the 20-home run marker twice so far in his career.
At no point, however, has he been anywhere close to as productive as he has been in recent weeks.
Varsho's first home run in Tuesday night's 10-4 win over the Rockies quickly became a forgotten blur when he connected with his second, one of the most impressive swings we've seen from a Blue Jays hitter this season.
The loud, towering blast smacked off the facing of the third deck at Coors Field, which hangs high above the outfield fence and deep beyond it.
By the end of the night, Varsho had driven in a career-high six runs.
Varsho's power, especially as of late, paired with his consistently elite defense in centre field, makes him a considerable part of this Jays lineup.
Some players are simply more capable of raising the Blue Jays' ceiling than others, though, and Varsho sits near the top of that list.
We all know he's one of baseball's finest defenders, but he's starting to hit balls to places even he wouldn't be able to catch them.
He's already up to four defensive runs saved despite playing in so few games this season.
ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE CATCH BY DAULTON VARSHO 🤯
Meanwhile, neither Gurriel Jr. nor Moreno has done much of anything for the Arizona Diamondbacks this season.
The former has a 0.0 WAR, while the latter is just 0.5. At this point, it's looking like if anything, the Blue Jays won the trade, which is a stark contrast to what most fans had thought just a few years ago.
