Blue Jays prospects gained valuable experience at camp, but still need seasoning
With less than a week to go before the regular season begins, teams are entering the phase where even strong performances aren't always enough to secure a roster spot.
Shortstop Josh Kasevich, in particular, made a compelling case this spring.
Kasevich, who had been viewed as a potential 2025 debut candidate before injuries interrupted his progress, put together an impressive showing in camp.
Over 36 at-bats, the 25-year-old hit .306/.375/.500, good for an .875 OPS, while adding a home run, five RBIs, and two stolen bases.
Ernie Clement 2.0 prototype has been unlocked. Blue Jays definitely have a type. Josh Kasevich fits this roster like a glove. Put him on the plane to Toronto.
RJ Schreck is another player with future big-league potential, possibly as soon as 2026.
His spring numbers were modest, as he posted a .143/.182/.190 slash line, but he did gain valuable experience representing Israel at the World Baseball Classic.
In that tournament, he hit .182/.400/.455, collecting two hits-including a home run-across four games.
CJ Stubbs, who also suited up for Israel in the World Baseball Classic, performed solidly in limited action during Spring Training.
He recorded a .273/.385/.273 slash line over 13 plate appearances, though he didn't register an extra-base hit. He went hitless in eight plate appearances during the WBC.
Yohendrick Pinango, meanwhile, had a quieter spring. The outfielder hit .160/.276/.360 with one home run across 29 plate appearances, resulting in a 66 wRC+.
Despite the underwhelming numbers, his ability to make hard contact remains encouraging.
Still, he'll need to rediscover the form he showed in 2025 to strengthen his case moving forward.
In total this spring, Stubbs went 3-for-11, Pinango finished 4-for-25 with a home run, and Schreck recorded three hits in 21 at-bats.
The Blue Jays will kick off their regular season on March 27 at Rogers Centre against the Oakland Athletics.
