Eloy Jimenez has been making some noise for the Toronto Blue Jays so far in 2026, is it real or just another former star having a hot spring?

Former Silver Slugger Eloy Jimenez has turned some heads for the Toronto Blue Jays early this spring.
The question, however, is whether his performance is the start of a real resurgence - or just another case of spring training fool's gold.
Blue Jays fans have seen this story before.
There was Curtis Granderson leading the club in spring home runs back in 2018.
Joe Panik hit an impressive .364 during the shortened 2020 spring. Greg Bird put together an eye-catching camp in 2022.
And who could forget Joey Votto launching a home run off Zack Wheeler two years later?

It's always tempting to believe a veteran is about to rediscover the magic.
And in a six-week spring training grind, stories like these are inevitable. They're fun, they spark optimism, and they give everyone something to talk about while teams ramp up for the season.
But history shows those hot springs rarely translate directly into regular-season success.
Granderson had some solid moments, but his 11-home run season never lived up to the preseason excitement.
Panik was serviceable but far from a difference-maker. Bird and Votto, meanwhile, never appeared in another big-league game afterward.
That's the reality of spring training. It's only a month long, and the results are often noisy because the level of competition varies so widely.
A home run off a minor-league pitcher might look great in the box score, but it doesn't necessarily predict success against the best arms in the world.
Sometimes, it doesn't even guarantee a spot on the Opening Day roster.
That brings us back to Jiménez.

Jimenez making the best of what may be his last shot at getting back to MLB

At 29 years old, the former star slugger is still young enough to intrigue.
He's off to a strong start this spring, hitting .321 through his first 11 games in a Blue Jays uniform.

While he may not be quite the same player he was earlier in his career, his power and bat-to-ball skillset still has the potential to make an impact if he gets the opportunity.
He's hardly the only veteran around baseball enjoying a productive spring, either. Players like Mike Yastrzemski in Atlanta and Santiago Espinal with the Dodgers are also putting up big numbers in camp.
Not all of them will carry that momentum into the regular season.
The Blue Jays are hopeful Jiménez might be one of the exceptions.
Another familiar spring storyline involves players arriving at camp in peak physical condition.
Every year, attention turns to someone who has shed weight, added muscle, or otherwise revamped their offseason routine.
Jiménez showed up to spring training in the best shape in years, noticeably stronger, and faster.
It's a promising sign, just not a guarantee.
