Bo Bichette isn't the only former Toronto Blue Jays infielder undergoing a position change.
The former Blue Jays shortstop became a third baseman upon signing his three new year contract with the New York Mets last month. While a position change was expected, third base was not.
And now, it looks as though is former teammate may be joining him in moving elsewhere on the diamond.
Ty France won a Gold Glove this past season for his work backing up Vladimir Guerrero Jr. at first base after splitting time between Toronto and the Minnesota Twins.
In honour of Ty France's big game, we'll describe the vibes in French: C'est Bon.
Baseball in an era of positional versatility
Now, according to Will Sammon and Katie Woo of the Athletic, it's being reported that many teams are asking France if he'd be willing to consider a move to 2nd base.
It should be noted however, that while teams are asking France if he'd be open to the position switch, they also still see him as a primary first baseman.
A couple of teams have asked the free agent first baseman about playing some second base, league sources said. Those same clubs primarily see France as a first baseman. Last season, he won the American League Gold Glove Award at first base. But France came up as a third baseman and logged 21 games at second base in 2021.
2nd base wouldn't be unfamiliar for France, who also has experience at third. The Gold Glover routinely took ground balls at all three positions last season, and logged 21 games at 2nd base in 2021.
As the Blue Jays are prime examples of, modern baseball is in an era of positional versatility and flexibility. While it is unknown how open France is to the change, he is certainly athletic enough to make it happen.
