The Toronto Blue Jays didn't just hit in the first two games of the ALDS; they put up historic numbers

With five home runs in game 2, the Blue Jays now have eight through the first two games of the series. What makes this more remarkable is that they have only struck out seven times.
Yes, through the first two games of their ALDS series against the New York Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays have more home runs than strikeouts.
2-0
8 home runs
7 strikeouts

The #BlueJays aren't just leaning into their own superpowers in the ALDS they've stolen the Yankees':
Just how rare is that feat?
Only one other team has ever managed to do that.
In 2005, the Chicago Chicago White Sox had six home runs and four strike outs through their first two ALDS games.
They went on their first World Series in 86 years, finally bringing a championship back to the Windy City.

Blue Jays leaning into their identity, getting the best of both worlds

It's a rare quality to be both a power hitting team and one that rarely strikes out. In 2025, the Yankees led the league in home runs with 274, but they also had the third highest strike out total in major league baseball.
Through the first two games of the series, the Yankees have one home run and 21 strikeouts.
Also the sample size is small, this is the postseason, where anything and everything gets amplified.
Manager John Schneider says that the power is just a result of the Blue Jays trying to put the ball in play consistently.
«We're going to put the ball in play. We've done that over the course of the year. I think the home runs are a by-product of a really good approach against specific pitchers that you're really focused on at this time of year

There's no guarantee that this kind of power surge is sustainable, especially with the series moving to New York. However, with their reputation as a low-strike out team, the Blue Jays could continue this trend for at least one more game.
