The Toronto Blue Jays and manager John Schneider have engaged in contract extension talks, but no agreement has been finalized.

Fresh off a remarkable 2025 campaign that saw the Toronto Blue Jays advance to the World Series for the first time in over 30 years, John Schneider’s impact on the organization is impossible to ignore.
While Toronto’s roster was brimming with talent, the steady leadership in the dugout played a pivotal role in the club’s success.
Schneider expertly navigated both the regular season and the postseason.
He guided the Blue Jays to the best record in the American League and was named runner-up for AL Manager of the Year honors.
In October, he consistently made timely decisions, pressing the right buttons as Toronto battled its way to a Game 7 appearance on baseball’s biggest stage.
Beyond tactics, Schneider fostered a resilient clubhouse culture. With the support of a strong coaching staff, he created an environment that allowed players to thrive and perform at their peak throughout the year.
In a recent conversation with Sportsnet’s Shi Davidi, Schneider confirmed that discussions about a long-term extension have taken place.
The 44-year-old skipper is entering the final year of his current contract and expressed optimism about continuing those talks.
“If there’s a way to do it that makes sense for both sides, that’d be great,” Schneider said. “We’ll continue to talk. There’s no place I’d rather be than with this group.”

Following the World Series, general manager Ross Atkins acknowledged that extension conversations were underway, and those discussions appear to be ongoing.
Atkins himself is also entering the final year of his deal, adding another layer of intrigue to the club’s leadership situation.

Schneider, Atkins contracts both up for renewal in 2026

Schneider’s path to the manager’s office began in 2022, when he was promoted from bench coach to interim manager after Charlie Montoyo was dismissed midseason.
He steered the Blue Jays to a wild-card berth that year, earning a three-year contract to remain as the full-time manager.
The deal included a club option for 2026, which Toronto exercised last November following its deep postseason run.
Since taking over, Schneider has compiled a 303-257 record, guiding the team to three postseason appearances in four seasons.
The lone setback came in 2024, when Toronto finished 74-88 and questions swirled about potential changes in the dugout or front office.
Team president Mark Shapiro recently secured a five-year extension, and given the franchise’s resurgence in 2025 and its ambitions moving forward, it would be surprising if both Atkins and Schneider entered the season without clarity about their futures.
For now, though, Schneider insists his focus remains squarely on the present.
“I’m focused on right here, right now,” he said, keeping his attention on building off last season’s momentum rather than looking ahead to 2027 and beyond.
