After Chad Green was DFA'd on July 29, the Blue Jays officially released the reliever on Sunday, according to their official transactions page.
Former Toronto Blue Jays reliever Chad Green is now officially a free agent
Now that Green has been released by the Blue Jays, it means that 29 other teams will be able to sign him as a free agent at a prorated salary.
Even with a prorated salary it will be tough for teams to give up a roster spot to the league leader in giving up home runs (14).
Green spent his first seven seasons in the big leagues with the New York Yankees.
In three years with the Blue Jays, the right-hander appeared in 109 games, including 53 in 2024, when Green recorded 17 saves.
This season has been a nightmare for Green, who has the dubious distinction of leading all MLB relievers in home runs surrendered.
He gave up two in Toronto's 16-4 loss in Game 1 of the doubleheader to give Green 14 dingers surrendered this season.
It's a tough blow for Green, but one that shouldn't be considered surprising, given his struggles.
