The Toronto Blue Jays continue to fall victim to the injury bug...this time it's right-handed reliever Lazaro Estrada.

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed the right-hander Lazaro Estrada on the 15-day injured list due to a shoulder impingement in his throwing arm.
The move has been made retroactive to April 5, the same day Estrada was optioned to Triple-A.
According to Shi Davidi of Sportsnet, the injury actually occurred while Estrada was still on the major league roster. As a result, he’s been assigned to the MLB injured list rather than a minor-league designation.
The Blue Jays placed Lazaro Estrada on the major-league injured list retro to April 5 with a right shoulder impingement. He was initially optioned to triple-A Buffalo after his April 4 outing, but the injury stemmed from that appearance, leading to the IL stint.

Estrada becomes the seventh pitcher on the Blue Jays injured list

One notable outcome of this decision is that Estrada will accumulate additional major league service time.
That’s significant for a player who entered the season with just four days of MLB service.
Estrada made his debut with Toronto in 2025, recording an 8.59 ERA across 7⅓ innings in two appearances.
He’s only appeared once so far this season, but showed improvement—delivering four scoreless innings against the Chicago White Sox on April 4, while allowing just two walks in a long relief role.
Set to turn 27 later this week, Estrada originally signed internationally in 2018 and has spent his entire professional career within the Blue Jays organization.
He didn’t reach Triple-A until 2025, where he posted a 5.73 ERA over 97⅓ innings with Buffalo. A relatively high .331 BABIP contributed to that inflated ERA.
Primarily used as a starter in the minors, Estrada is generally projected as a long reliever or depth option at the major league level.
With his addition, Estrada becomes the seventh pitcher, and 11th player overall, on Toronto’s MLB injured list, underscoring just how hard injuries have hit the club early in the 2026 season.
