As the Toronto Blue Jays work through several pitching injuries ahead of Opening Day, manager John Schneider shared a few key updates on Sunday.

According to Mitch Bannon of The Athletic, Toronto Blue Jays manager Schneider told reporters that right-hander Trey Yesavage, who will begin the season on the injured list due to a shoulder issue, is expected to take the mound in a minor-league game on Wednesday as part of his recovery process.
Trey Yesavage is expected to start a minor league game on Wednesday. He, Bieber and Berrios are going to continue their work at the PDC in Florida, though will likely join the #BlueJays for a couple days for Opening Day festivities
Yesavage will remain at the team's player development complex in Florida alongside fellow pitchers Shane Bieber and José Berrios, both of whom are also dealing with injuries.
The trio will continue their respective throwing programs as they work toward returning to game action.
With those three projected starters unavailable, Toronto is set to open the 2026 season with a five-man rotation consisting of Kevin Gausman, Dylan Cease, Eric Lauer, Cody Ponce, and Max Scherzer.

John Schneider noted that final roster decisions are still being made

Speaking with Sportsnet's Shi Davidi, Schneider emphasized that roster construction involves more than just individual performance, pointing out that factors like organizational depth and 40-man roster implications all play a role in the team's decision-making process.
Blue Jays still deciding on their final roster spots, John Schneider said. With two Rule 5 picks and Leo Jimenez out of options, asset management "is definitely a part of it ... how does each decision affect someone else, the depth of the organization and the 40-man roster."
Despite their injuries, Yesavage, Bieber, and Berrios are all expected to be with the club in Toronto for Opening Day on Friday, when the Blue Jays host the Oakland Athletics, even though they won't be available to play.
