Toronto Blue Jays to face Team Canada as part of spring training schedule

Just days after losing Game 7 of the World Series, the Toronto Blue Jays announced on Wednesday that they would be playing Team Canada as part of their 2026 spring training schedule ahead of the World Baseball Classic.

Four pools of five teams each will begin WBC play March 5 in San Juan, Houston, Tokyo and Miami.

Canada, which has never reached the knockout stage, is grouped with Colombia, Cuba, Panama and Puerto Rico in San Juan.

Japan is the defending champion after beating the U.S. in the 2022 final.

Meanwhile, the Blue Jays will be back in action in less than four months when they begin spring training on Feb. 21 against the Philadelphia Phillies at home in Dunedin, Fla.

Other schedule highlights include the annual Spring Breakout game against the Phillies on March 21, featuring both teams' top prospects, as well as four meetings with the New York Yankees in an ALDS rematch.

The Blue Jays' regular-season and home opener is scheduled for March 26 against the Athletics.
