Toronto Blue Jays to introduce NPB slugger Kazuma Okamoto on Tuesday

The Blue Jays and Okamoto finalized a four-year, US$60-million contract over the weekend.

The 29-year-old infielder has spent his entire career in Nippon Professional Baseball with the Yomiuri Giants and has been named as an all-star to the Japanese league six times.

He was also the league's home run leader in 2020, 2021, and 2023.

Okamoto was batting .327 last season, but missed more than half the season with an elbow injury. He hit 15 homers and drove in 49 runs during the 69 games he did play.

Toronto's front office is hoping to cash in on Okamoto's success in Japan as part of an off-season strategy has also seen the addition pitchers Dylan Cease, Cody Ponce and Tyler Rogers.

The Blue Jays won the American League pennant last season before falling to the Los Angeles Dodgers in the World Series in seven games.

According to the Athletics' Mitch Bannon, Okamoto will be formally introduced on Tuesday (1 p.m. ET) at Rogers Centre.

He'll be joined by his agent, Scott Boras, and Blue Jays general manager Ross Atkins.

Okamoto will speak to the media for the first time in a Blue Jays uniform.

A six-time all-star, Okamoto has a .277 average with 248 homers and 717 RBIs in 11 Japanese big league seasons, leading the Central League in home runs in 2020, 2021 and 2023.
