Team Dominican Republic has officially announced that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. will represent his country in the 2026 World Baseball Classic.
The upcoming WBC is shaping up to be a showcase of elite talent, with several nations fielding rosters capable of winning it all.
At the forefront are the Dominican Republic, the United States, and Japan — widely viewed as the three strongest teams heading into the tournament.

His commitment comes shortly after Kazuma Okamoto was confirmed for Team Japan, which will once again be led by Shohei Ohtani.
Japan remains a powerhouse and should be expected to reach at least the semifinals.
Team USA will also enter the tournament with a stacked roster and impressive pitching depth.
With Aaron Judge serving as captain, the Americans will be eager to rebound after their championship loss to Japan in 2023.

The Dominican Republic, meanwhile, is no stranger to success on this stage. The nation captured its lone WBC title in 2013 and now has the talent to make another deep run 13 years later.
Guerrero Jr. joins an already impressive Dominican roster that includes Fernando Tatis Jr., Oneil Cruz, Junior Caminero, Cristopher Sánchez, Freddy Peralta, and Sandy Alcantara. The team will be managed by Hall of Famer Albert Pujols.
Securing Guerrero Jr.’s participation is a major step forward for a Dominican squad looking to redeem itself after a disappointing showing in the 2023 tournament.
During the regular season, Guerrero Jr. posted another strong campaign for the Blue Jays, slashing .292/.381/.467 with 23 home runs over 680 plate appearances.
He posted a 137 wRC+ and 3.9 fWAR, making it statistically the third-best season of his career.
He elevated his game even further in the postseason, hitting an eye-popping .397/.494/.795 with eight home runs in 89 plate appearances.
That performance translated to a remarkable 241 wRC+, earning him American League Championship Series MVP honors and setting a new Blue Jays record for most home runs in a single postseason.
Guerrero Jr. has proven he thrives under the brightest lights, and there’s every reason to expect the same when the World Baseball Classic begins this March.
