Two time All-Star Shane Bieber set to make Toronto Blue Jays debut

The 73-51 Toronto Blue Jays are poised to get a compelling boost to the rotation in the form of former American League Cy Young winner Shane Bieber.
The list of Accolades in Shane Bieber's career so far is long. He's won the 2020 AL Cy Young Award, the 2020 AL Pitching Triple Crown, and the 2022 AL Gold Glove Award.
He's also a two-time AL All-Star (2019, 2021), and was the 2019 All-Star Game MVP. Additionally, he has led the AL in several pitching categories, including ERA, wins, and strikeouts in 2020.
The deal was a surprise because Bieber was at the time, and still is, recovering from the Tommy John surgery he underwent in April 2024 after just a pair of starts.
Despite such very real concerns, the Jays took a swing on Bieber and the balance of his $14 million salary for 2025 (plus a $16 million player option and $4 million buyout for 2026).
Bieber made what is expected to be his last minor league rehab start in Buffalo.

He went 7 scoreless IP, throwing 90 pitches, gave up 6 hits and struck out 4. Shane is expected to make his Blue Jays debut on Friday against the Marlins.
Shane Bieber's rehab start with Triple-A Buffalo is finished and it all looked very, very good. 7 IP | 0 ER, 6 H, 0 BB, 4 K | 90 pitches. He's ready. Surely, his next start comes with the Blue Jays. I'd bet on the Marlins series.
Toronto will certainly be careful with his return, but it looks like it could be all systems go for next weekend.
If Bieber can regain his form as an AL Cy Young caliber pitcher, he could end up being one of the best deals of the entire trade deadline.
Even though it was a risky move to acquire him, it might work out beautifully for the Blue Jays.
