The shortstop was scratched from the Jays' lineup prior to first pitch on Monday after experiencing right knee discomfort during his batting practice round. It'll be the first game he's missed this season.
After the 5-4 win, manager John Schneider told reporters that Bichette stepped on a ball during batting practice, which led to the knee discomfort.
However, there aren't any plans for imaging, so the team's concern level isn't super high, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith.
During BP today Bo Bichette was making a throw and he stepped on a ball. That led to the knee discomfort and late scratch. But as of now, no tests planned, indicating that concern level isn't super high as of now.
«Bichette was taking ground balls early, and made a throw from the hole, was backpedaling and stepped on a ball that was sitting in the outfield, Docs checked him out. No tests are planned as of now.» - John Schneider on Bo Bichette (right knee discomfort)
TOR's Bo Bichette is considered day-to-day with a knee issue. Manager John Schneider confirmed after Monday's 5-4 win over the Yankees that no additional testing is expected.
The two-time all-star is slashing .272/.311/.427 through 356 at-bats this season for 11 home runs and a team-leading 49 RBIs. He also leads Toronto this season in hits (97) and games played (83).
The home series might prove vital to Toronto's post-season hopes as it enters the Canada Day matchup 2.0 games back of New York for top spot in the AL East.
