Back in December, Vladimir Guerrero Jr. appeared on a Spanish-language podcast and said that the contract offer from the Blue Jays wasn't close to what he was looking for. It would appear that circumstances have now changed.
According to Hector ;Gomez, a Spanish-language MLB insider and writer and Z101 digital reporter, the talks are progressing satisfactorily and the Blue Jays are moving closer to what Guerrero wants.
While the exact figure hasn't been revealed, many analysts believe that $450MM is a starting point. If so, it would be far and away the largest contract the Blue Jays have ever given out.
Whether or not one agrees with Gomez' assessment is a matter of opinion, but he has a decent track record, especially when it comes to Latin American ballplayers.
Former All-Star player-turned-broadcaster Carlos Baerga also recently posted that he believes that Vladdy will sign a $450MM deal before the season starts.
Keegan Matheson, Blue Jays beat writer for MLB, has said on multiple occasions that Guerrero may go the Aaron Judge route. He will test the free agent waters at the end of 2025, just to get a taste of what is like to be a free agent and have all the attention on him, before ultimately re-signing with the Blue Jays.
There are 18 days left until Guerrero's deadline for extension talks.
