When the Blue Jays begin their playoff quest in an American League Division Series tussle with their division rival New York Yankees on Saturday, they'll be facing a team on a major roll.
A 4-0 beat down of the Red Sox in the finale of the wild card continued a recent run by the Yankees that not only saw them rally from a loss in the opener of the best-of-three series, but continue a white hot streak that saw them win eight in a row and 11 of their final 12 regular season games.
Now, the Yankees' attention turns to the Blue Jays. Toronto had the upper hand against New York during the regular season going 8-5. Judge revealed his first reaction to facing the Blue Jays.
Yankees' Aaron Judge talks about the Blue Jays and the pressure of playing at Rogers Centre
«We're excited for Toronto,» Judge remarked. «It's going to be a fun matchup. They've got a good ballclub over there, and we're going to try to keep it rolling.»
Judge kind of surprised some people when he gave the Blue Jays some high praise ahead of the upcoming ALDS.
"They're a complete team, they don't strike out a lot, so they're going to put the ball in play. They're going to force your hand on defense. We're looking forward to that. Toronto is going to be rocking. We love that." - Aaron Judge
When asked about the pressure about playing at the Rogers Centre in a playoff atmosphere Judge sounded confident that the Yankees can block out the noise.
«All season it's been like this, our backs up against the wall,» Judge explained. «We've had a lot of noise from the outside, but it never crept into this clubhouse.
«We knew how special this group is and how special we are, and now we've got to take care of business in the DS.»
This is familiar territory for the Yankees, of course. When action gets under way at 4:08 p.m. on Saturday at Rogers Centre, it will continue their eighth playoff appearance in the past nine seasons, including a 2024 World Series loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
The latest step for the storied franchise sees the Yanks advancing to their 25th ALDS in this their 60th MLB post-season appearance, more than any other franchise.
The Blue Jays, meanwhile, are making their third playoff appearance since 2022 and their first action in the ALDS since 2016.
