The two-way superstar was announced as the 2025 National League Most Valuable Player. It is Ohtani's third straight MVP award, second consecutive National League win, and his fourth overall. He beat out the Phillies' Kyle Schwarber and Juan Soto of the Mets to claim the award.
The legend continues!
Shohei Ohtani is the NL MVP for the second straight season!
Despite being in just his eighth big league season, Ohtani now has the second-most MVP Awards of all time. Only Barry Bonds has more, with seven. What's even more remarkable is that all four of Ohtani's wins were unanimous, cementing his status as one of baseball's all-time greatest players.
While Judge had another phenomenal season, batting .331 while hitting 53 home runs, many thought that Raleigh and his 60 homers would take home the award, especially considering what he did has never been done before by a catcher.
Judge and Raleigh were each named on all 30 ballots, with the Yankees superstar receiving 17 first place votes, while Raleigh received 13. Although there was a 20 point difference in their totals, just two first place votes were the difference between Judge winning and there being a tie.
While only two Blue Jays players have won an MVP and none were expected to contend this year, it was nice to see Vladdy, Bo, and George get some well-deserved recognition.
