Starting pitchers overview
Left-hander Eric Lauer gets the ball for the Blue Jays in his first start of the season this afternoon.
Lauer's last spring outing came on a back field, but he built up to nearly 70 pitches in a minor-league game.
Over 104.2 innings in a swingman role in 2025, the 30-year-old posted a 3.18 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 102:26 K:BB in 28 appearances (15 starts).
Athletics rookie righty Luis Morales makes his first regular-season start today as well.
In his last outing, Morales allowed three runs on a hit and four walks across 2.2 innings in a Cactus League win over the White Sox. He struck out two.
Morales struggled with his control out of the gate, loading the bases via free passes before being burned by a bases-clearing double from Lenny Sosa that gave the White Sox an early lead in the first inning and led to Morales being lifted with one out remaining.
Upon re-entering to open the second inning, the right-hander settled in and didn't allow a run over his next two frames. Despite an uneven spring in which he compiled a 7.58 ERA and 1.84 WHIP across 19 innings.
The Athletics had a 76-86 record overall and a 40-41 record in road games last season. The Athletics slugged .431 as a team last season with 3.3 extra base hits per game.
Toronto went 94-68 overall and 54-27 in home games a season ago. The Blue Jays batted .265 as a team in the 2025 season with a .760 OPS.
