While the offseason has largely on the free agent pitchers, there is another player on the Toronto Blue Jays who is starting to his market pick up.
The Blue Jays had several free agents following the conclusion of the World Series, but most of the focus was on players like Chris Bassitt, Bo Bichette, and Seranthony Dominguez, who just just reached a dealwith the Chicago White Sox.
Now, France is starting to generate some buzz.
The 2025 Gold glove winner was acquired at the deadline from the Minnesota Twins to serve as a back-up to Vladimir Guerrero Jr. While there was mutual enjoyment on both sides, with Kazuma Okamoto and potentially Eloy Jimenez in the picture, it appears likely that France will play elsewhere in 2026.
And due to his status as a supreme defender, several teams are in interested in the 31 year old former All-Star.
According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, the Yankees, Mets, Padres and Diamondbacks have all checked in on France.
As reported last night, Diamondbacks are in on Carlos Santana as a free agent 1B target. They've also talked to Ty France, per source, though France has a robust market. Mets and Yankees have been involved with him, plus Padres and others. That market is moving.
France is a right-hander hitter, although he doesn't much platoon split, as his numbers against both RHP and LHP are virtually the same.
Both the Yankees and D-backs have lefty first baseman, while the Mets' Jorge Polanco is a switch hitter who has exactly one inning of experience playing the position.
Meanwhile, signing with San Diego would be a homecoming of sorts for France, who is from Downey and played college ball at San Diego State.
Nothing beyond talks, but market moving quickly
While so far the two sides have exchanged talks, the first base market is picking up steam and starting to move quickly.
With Spring Training just a few weeks away, France should find a new home sooner rather than later.
