Blue Jays lost another pitcher to a season-ending injury

The Toronto Blue Jays starting pitching depth has taken another hit. The team announced that starter Jake Bloss, often considered the number six starter and next man up in Triple-A, will undergo UCL surgery. It will sideline him for the rest of 2025 and into 2026 as well.
It's another blow to a farm system that has been decimated by pitching injuries. In addition to Bloss, the Blue Jays have nine other pitchers currently recovering from Tommy John surgery and other long-term injuries including Brandon Barriera, Alek Manoah, Landen Maroudis, and Ricky Tiedemann.
Mitch Bannon of The Athletic was the first to report the news.
While Bloss' numbers so far this season hadn't blown anybody away, he had turned a corner recently and appeared to have put himself in a good position to be called to the major league should the needed have arisen.
Now, the Blue Jays will be without another prized prospect for at least a year.
Toronto has invested heavily in Bloss, who was the centre piece of the trade that sent Yusei Kikcuhi to the Houston Astros. It was a deal that also netted the Jays Joey Loperfido and Will Wagner.
While Bloss made some appearances in Spring Training, he has yet to pitch in a major league game for the club. He has all of three games of major league experience, after Houston rushed him to the majors last year.
In terms of Triple-A starters, Easton Lucas and Paxton Schultz will still get a look for the Blue Jays, who also recently added Jose Urena and Spencer Turnbull. Adam Macko and Adam Kloffenstein will also play a factor as well when they return from their respective injuries.
Bloss is expected back in about a year.
