According to MLB.com's Keegan Matheson, Blue Jays manager John Schneider announced that Max Scherzer is on track to start a game in Triple-A Buffalo on Friday.
Max Scherzer is on track to make a rehab start Friday for the AAA Buffalo Bisons. After that, he'll need at least one more rehab outing, John Schneider says.
Scherzer had a successful 50-pitch simulated game Sunday and will throw a bullpen session Tuesday or Wednesday according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson Smith.
Assuming he comes out of that without a setback, he'll be cleared for a formal rehab start Friday.
Max Scherzer feeling good. Bullpen session slated for Tuesday or Wednesday tentatively followed by 60-65 pitch start at AAA Friday. Would likely need 2+ rehab starts before rejoining Jays.
The Athletic's Mitch Bannon reiterated the news.
Plan going forward for Max Scherzer (assuming he feels good after outings)
- bullpen Tuesday
- AAA start Friday
Will likely need one more AAA start after that to get up to 80ish pitches, before rejoining Blue Jays.
"My sense is that they are going to be pretty aggressive with Max Scherzer."
The 40-year-old has been out since late March with right thumb inflammation.
