It was a seismic moment in Blue Jays. The current team needs to channel that.
10 years ago, in the middle of perhaps the craziest inning baseball has ever seen,
Jose Bautista demolished a baseball into the Toronto stratosphere, and threw his bat just as far.
It's a memory seared into the minds of a generation of Blue Jays; the iconic image of a breakthrough after decades of toiling in obscurity, the bat flip heard 'round the world has became a myth, a legend in Toronto sports lore.
10 Years Ago Today: The Bat Flip Heard Around The World
The 2025 Toronto Blue Jays could use a little bit of that bat flip magic now.
While the division series was full of moments, most notably
Vladimir Guerrero Jr.'s grand slam, the first ever in postseason history for Toronto, the Championship Series has so far yet to have its signature moment a la Bautista.
Moment still reverberates 10 years on
Rogers Centre is known as one of the loudest stadiums. The uproar was Guerrero hit his grand slam was palpable. And yet, it was dwarfed in comparison to Bautista's bat flip, a moment so powerful that the television cameras were shaking live on air, unable to cope with the sheer volume of cheers.
Toronto, and the Blue Jays - even all of Canada - needs another moment like that. It might just propel them into the World Series.
