In their three game against the Houston Astros, the Toronto Blue Jays tied their own record for futility. Not only did they score a meagre two runs, but they managed just nine hits in the entire series.

That ties a record they set from April 1-3, 2024. Who was that series against? Why the very same Houston Astros.
While the Blue Jays were getting on base and finding ways to win despite their obvious lack of power, the series against Houston felt different. And not in a good way.
While there was one home run, courtesy of Nathan Lukes, it wasn't exactly a screamer. The Blue Jays are getting a lot of soft contact, but seem unable to do anything when the moment counts.
Several hitters have averages hovering around or below .200, and the team in home runs is Andres Gimenez, with three. He also hasn't one since the first week of the season.
Thankfully, the Blue Jays have an off-day, which will give everyone breather and allow them a chance at a refresh, restart. Sometimes that is all that is needed.
Things do seem to be turning around ever so slightly. While the team only managed four hits in the first two games combined, they managed five on Wednesday. So they are slowly inching their way there.
They head to Yankee Stadium - a notorious hitter-friendly park - on Friday to begin a three game series.
Let's hope the friendly confines of the Bronx start a fire for the Blue Jays and kick-start an offence that desperately needs a jolt of good luck.
