Heading into the 2025 season, rumours swirled about whether or not it would be Shapiro's last as President of the Blue Jays.
Staring down an expiring contract and increasingly fickle fanbase and coming off an underwhelming 2024, Shapiro - as well as general manager Ross Atkins - had to prove that they were playing the long game. It appears to have worked.
According to Buster Olney of ESPN,
An announcement that Shapiro has signed an extension is expected at some point. If Rogers Communications, the sole owner of the Blue Jays, holds to form, that might not happen until the offseason."

In spite of everything, it's not hard to see why the Blue Jays and Shapiro have mutually agreed to prolong their relationship.
Shapiro spearheaded the renovations of Rogers Centre, which have been a big hit with players and fans alike. Beyond that though, him at Atkins stuck gold when they - finally - locked up Vladimir Guerrero Jr. with a 15 year contract extension earlier in the season.
Shapiro still has unfinished business too. Although Toronto has made four playoff appearances in the Shapiro-Atkins era, they haven't won a series, or even a playoff game, in a decade.
Their last playoff success came in 2016, Shapiro's first year on the job, and with a team largely built Alex Anthopoulos and the previous front office group.
Winning a world series is the ultimate goal and may be the only thing that will truly placate fans concerns about the way Shapiro has run the team.
Still, congratulations are in order.
The terms of the deal have not been disclosed nor have they confirmed by either Shapiro, The Blue Jays, or Rogers Communications.
