The Toronto Blue Jays look to salvage the last game against the Kansas City Royals in the finale of a three-game set at Kauffman Stadium.

A postseason spot is sitting right in front of the Blue Jays, begging them to reach out and complete the long-obvious formality.
They're suddenly taking their time, though, dragging this through yet another night and into yet another day.
Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Royals at Kauffman Stadium was their fourth in a row.
There's nothing complex about this skid, either. In four games, they've scored just three runs.
Hopefully today their bats wake up and give their young rookie starter some run support.
Blue Jays rookie Trey Yesavage goes up against Royals veteran Michael Wacha. First pitch is at 2:10 PM ET on Sportsnet and TVA Sports.

Starting pitchers overview

Trey Yesavage was impressive in his major-league debut Monday against the Rays, striking out nine over five innings of one-run ball.
That has earned him at least one more regular-season start, and it's a favorable matchup versus the Royals.
Yesavage threw just 69 pitches in his outing against the Rays, and it's not clear what the Blue Jays have planned for his workload this afternoon.
Michael Wacha (9-12) gets the ball for the Royals. In his last outing he took the loss, allowing seven runs on nine hits and no walks over 2.2 innings against the Mariners. He recorded no strikeouts.
Wacha was rocked in his first start back from a brief injured list stint for a concussion, lasting fewer than three innings while surrendering six extra-base hits, including homers to Dominic Canzone and Cal Raleigh.
The veteran right-hander entered with a 3.45 ERA and 1.18 WHIP, but those marks climbed to 3.79 and 1.22, respectively, across 29 starts and 161.2 innings this season.

Blue Jays key players to watch

George Springer ranks 19th in homers and 48th in RBI among all MLB hitters this year.
Springer enters this matchup looking for his third game in a row with a hit. In his last five games he is batting .350 with a double, a home run, a walk and three RBIs.
Ernie Clement is hitting .277 with 33 doubles, two triples, nine home runs and 26 walks.
Alejandro Kirk has 17 doubles, 12 home runs and 47 walks while hitting .285.
