Until a little less than three weeks ago, Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette had never played on a first place team this late in a big-league season, though he had thought about it often enough.
«It's the first time in my career. It feels good coming to the park every day with a bunch of teammates that are willing to do whatever it takes to win. When you do that, the best version of yourself will come out.»
As the Blue Jays continue to cement their position atop the American League East, the shortstop rather likes the feeling.
Asked Bo Bichette how he would compare this 2025 Blue Jays squad to ones he was a part of in the past:
«This is the best team I've ever been on.»
After helping power the club to a 4-1 win over the New York Yankees on Monday, the star shortstop took a moment to give credit where it was due, the Blue Jays fans.
If it feels like 2015 for Blue Jays fans, it does for Bo Bichette, too:
"This is the best this fanbase has been for us since I've been in the big leagues, in regular season games. It's what I remember watching on TV when I was 17 at home, watching Bautista and Donaldson."
Bichette revels in this team and the resurgence of its fanbase
The message was loud and clear, the 27-year-old sees this fanbase rising to the moment just like it did during the Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson years, an era defined by playoff drama, bat flips, and sold-out crowds.
Bo Bichette says he feels this is the best the Blue Jays fan base has been in his time in the big leagues.
«This is what I remember watching on TV when I was 17 years old at home, with Bautista and Donaldson.»
For Toronto fans, the comments felt like validation. Supporters who stuck around through playoff misses and tough stretches are finally seeing that passion reflected back from their stars.
«It feels like it's something we've been striving to do,» Bichette said before playing the hero in a 4-1 Jays win over the New York Yankees at a rocking, sold-out Rogers Centre on Monday, the latest magical night in a summer piling up with them.
Bo Bichette now leads the majors in AVG (.400) in hitting w/RISP with that go-ahead, 2-run double off Carlos Rodon. #BlueJays
While trade rumors swirled last winter, Bichette's praise may hint at a stronger connection to Toronto than many realize.
